25 Best Isekai/Reincarnation Manga Worth Checking Out –
The Isokai genre has had its share of limelight.
In essence, it is the embodiment of what many otaku dream of: immersing themselves in an imaginary world.
Gender has been around since the 1990s, but it only took off at the end of 2010.
Originally it was more of a trope than a genus. But the sudden surge in popularity is accompanied by a certain mix of stylistic elements: Swords and magic, world of high fantasy and games.
In this list I’ve collected some of the best isekai manga (and on the theme of reincarnation), all of which are worth checking out.
25. Sayunara Ryuusei, Konnichiwa Jinsei
It is interesting to note that the main character of this series is not of our world.
In fact, it is a mighty dragon from ancient times who reincarnated as a human in his next life.
Of course, he retains his knowledge in the process.
The premise is interesting, but the execution is a bit dull. The characters lack development and depth, and the plot develops at an awkward pace.
On the other hand, the art is really good.
24. How not to invoke the Demon Lord (Isekai Maou in Shokan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu)
At the beginning of this adventure, our MC is called to meet two bickering adventurers.
Nevertheless, he poses as a demon lord and reverses the situation, resulting in two slaves.
It’s an interesting read, with some twists and turns. They’re definitely big fights.
23. Veterinarian in another world (Ju-san no Oshigoto in Isekai)
As in most isekai manga, the main character of this series is summoned from a specific need.
But it’s not supposed to be fighting monsters or demons. Instead, he is called upon to care for the animals.
As a vet, he’s good at it.
This manga is a nice niche. But I find it really interesting.
And I know that doesn’t mean everyone does.
Another downside is that the series contains a lot of text. It is even normal to see three speech bubbles in the same panel. Yes, this text is heavy.
22. Kuma Bear
The main character of this series made his fortune thanks to a game of VRRMOs. As any reasonable person in her situation probably would, she retreats.
But after answering the update survey and returning to the game, she finds herself trapped in the game with an overpowering bear outfit.
That’s where the problem lies: When she wears an outfit, she feels overwhelmed. If she doesn’t, she’s just a normal person.
And this whole show is sprinkled with bears. Whether it’s bear drawings, bear jokes or even bear figures.
The good stuff? They’re actually kind of cute.
21. Mushokyu Tensei: Reincarnation of the Unemployed (Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu)
NEET, 34, has been reincarnated into an imaginary world after being killed in a car accident.
But this time he has to start over with the baby. Even though he has the mind of a grown man.
Actually, the plot is good. But it doesn’t really have any distinguishing features.
The fact is that the main character actually thinks like an adult. – NO. That means a lot of twisting and turning and making good decisions for a strange young child.
20. maker of the general installation
In this world, black hair is a bad sign. And since our MC is Japanese, I guess he’s out of luck.
Worse, he comes from the temple of the god of destruction, so he is considered the god of destruction.
Although the main character is called the God of Evil and can control everything in this world, he is not a villain.
He uses his skills and knowledge to help others and just does what he wants.
The characters in this series are very individual. They have different opinions and act accordingly.
Some want to be friends with the protagonist, while others want to take advantage of him. Of course there are people who are afraid of him.
19. Kuro no Shoukanshi
The principle of Kuro no Shokanshi is pretty standard for an isekai manga. There is a main character, a harem, and a hero who saves the world.
What sets the main character apart is that he is a hardcore action junkie.
He just loves to fight. He even traded his memory for twice its size.
Besides, he doesn’t really care about being a hero. He just wants to do what he wants to do and fight here and there.
18. Konjiki no Moji Tsukai: Yuusha Yonin ni Makikomareta Single Cheat
When the four heroes are called to a new world, our MC is in the room and he too is drawn into it.
Unlike the other protagonists of the isekai, our MC here really uses his head to question the situation.
She relies solely on her own observations and on information she has seen first hand.
In this sense, the series slowly but pleasantly explains its universe to the reader. So it’s kind of a deep RPG.
17. Jigo cures: Love in Hell
By definition, isekai means being transported to another world.
so, Jigo cures: Love in hell can fit.
We learn that when our master of ceremonies died, he was sent to hell. And he meets a young, inexperienced devil as his guide.
It’s rare to see a manga from Issekai that is more comedic than anything else.
But we must not forget that the environment is hell. So the show is a mix of comedy, gore and some shmexy scenes.
16. Ghost walk
Our MC hangs in the dungeon like a ghost with no memory, but he’s still learning how to deal with the creatures.
He manages to leave the dungeon and start a new life.
The story invests in the characters and gives them good interaction and development. The plot is also enjoyable and runs smoothly.
However, the series was discontinued earlier, so the ending is unsatisfactory.
15. Otome Game no Hametsu Flag Shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta . Zettai Zetsumei! Hametsu Sunzen-heen
Unlike other manga by Isekai, the main character of this series does not immediately realize that she has been reincarnated into a new world.
She doesn’t realize it until she’s a kid. Then she lets her brain crunch to remember everything she can about the game.
It makes her understand that no matter what she chooses, the game always ends with her death.
At least this series has a unique plot about how the main character comes up with new ways to avoid a bad ending.
The story is humorous without any explicit jokes. And the story flows well from start to finish.
It’s definitely worth reading if you have the time.
14. Dungeon Finder
Enter our MC, who is intimidated in his own world, and then enter the new world.
But his villains are also transported with him. At first it seems that his bullies have changed. That is, until they set him up to betray him.
The only girl in their group who was originally on the protagonist’s side decides it’s smart to frame the MC so he becomes a useless victim, just to show she’s better than him.
From the beginning, the plot doesn’t try to hide its sadness. MK’s betrayal is proof of that.
On the other hand, it’s really fun to watch the MC get stronger and closer to his revenge.
13. Wrong way to use healing magic (Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata: Senzhou wo Keifuku Yuin)
Our master of ceremonies had just become friends with the president and vice president of the student council when all three of them were conscripted into the new world.
The other two would have a good affinity for magic, but our MC turns out to be a healer.
It’s like a very rare form of magic.
Usually that means he has a lot of credibility to win or not, but this time he’s in the wrong manga!
In this world, the healing power of the kingdom is led by a dragon leader.
A leader abuses his subordinates by overtraining them. But with healing magic, they can easily relieve fatigue and heal wounds, leading them into an endless learning hell.
12. Tsuyokute New Saga
Our hero eventually killed the demon lord, but it cost him the lives of his precious allies.
Fortunately, on the verge of death, he activates an unknown artifact that sends him back in time. A chance to make things better.
Tsuyokute New Saga differs from other similar manga because it actually has a plot that develops.
Instead of secluding himself for training, our MC builds relationships with those in power to rebuild his party.
Of course, he also does his best to improve his powers and learn about demons.
11. Re:Zero – The beginning of life in another world (Re:Zero Kara Hajimearu Isekai Seikatsu)
Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu plays with two trophies :
Cut and temporary loops.
This series was originally a light novel that was adapted as a manga, allowing the author to focus more on the story.
As usual, the protagonist is placed in an imaginary world and thinks he is the protagonist.
However, things take a sharp turn when he dies a few chapters later. Then he realizes he has a unique gift.
It can come back at a certain time and still retain its memory. And as you can imagine, he kills again and again. That’s funny!
10. Re: Monster
Imagine putting an insignificant creature with adult knowledge in an imaginary world and then giving it a clearly superior evolutionary tree.
Actually, it’s Rae: Freak.
Based on the story of a man who is reborn as a leprechaun in the fantasy world, he uses his intelligence to become a much better predator.
He’s a predator too many, and every game often ends in an unbalanced victory.
This series doesn’t have a particularly complicated plot. But the evolutionary system is entertaining.
9. Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita
As with the other books on this list, the main character in this series is reincarnated into an imaginary world after his death.
But instead of being reincarnated as a human, another bipedal race or even a monster, he is reincarnated as a sword.
In addition to this curiosity, other isekai style figures are also present.
There are power levels, quick skill acquisition, and a game system.
It’s a good thing Tensei shitara Ken deshita has a strong sense of humor that doesn’t rely solely on corny jokes and burlesque comedy.
8. Kenja no Mago
When our MC dies in this world, he is reincarnated in the imaginary world.
Luckily for him, he was taken care of by the most powerful wizard in the world.
All his life he has been taught by the most powerful witch of all and by an equally powerful witch.
But because he grew up isolated, he has no idea how this fantasy world works.
The main character practices magic that changes the world without worrying about the consequences.
Normally this would be a boring development…. But since we also have no idea how much power there is in this world, it’s easy to be bewildered like everyone else in the manga.
7. Arifureta: From mediocrity to the world’s strongest
A whole class is transported to an imaginary world, and a typical class at that.
Our protagonist, who is often the target of bullies, is intimidated and betrayed. He is left for dead (a hellish fantasy world), but manages to survive in exchange for his sanity.
The series gets dark and psychological, but not to an unreasonable degree.
Needless to say, our master of ceremonies is not the same after all this. Having survived hell, he doesn’t shy away from taking human life if necessary.
6. I’m the spider, so what? (Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?)
You want something scary? Well, our MC from the show was reincarnated as a monster spider.
You sound like Re: Another monster, our MC is also in constant evolution.
What’s interesting about his evolution is that he can choose the species he will evolve into.
Although the main character acquires an insane amount of skills, she is only at the limit of her ability. There are still several struggles she can barely handle.
This means that she often uses her head to solve problems rather than unravel the whole story.
5. Principal contractor
When the virtual game is about to end, we meet our MC who wants to see the game in its final moments.
And he’s trapped in this virtual world.
Unlike most isekai where the protagonist starts from scratch, Overlord’s protagonist already has strong henchmen.
Besides, he’s not a very nice man. It borders on malice, but not necessarily horror.
He doesn’t hesitate to use people for experiments and doesn’t even care about exterminating entire species. An excellent book, especially if you’ve never heard of the series.
4. Tsuki Ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuuu
When our hero is summoned to a fantasy world, the goddess of that world thinks he is simply ugly.
Because of his ugliness, he was banished to the ends of the earth. Talk about cruel punishment.
Thus, our master of ceremonies travels the world, using his insane amount of mana to acquire monstrous servants.
For someone who got dumped, he’s pretty sweet. He even creates a city that cares nothing for race or beauty.
Of course, sooner or later, we have to reveal it….
3. Master Saitou in another world (Benriya Saitou, Isekai ni Iku)
When the seated character is transferred to another world, he retains his abilities and tools.
Compared to his boring day job, he likes where he’s going.
Going on an adventure is just an added bonus.
This series is a 4 koma manga, which means the chapters are very short. But it’s incredibly funny.
Jokes are just jokes. What’s better is that the story really develops and doesn’t stagnate like most manga gags.
2. Raising the Shield of Heroes (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)
When this fantasy world faces a world-class dilemma, the royal family is forced to summon heroes.
But only three of the four heroes are wanted. The fourth is our favorite character on the show.
The rise of the hero of the shield underscores the selfishness and love of power of the people.
After being abandoned as a hero, our MC became an outcast and a villain in the eyes of society. On the other hand, the other three characters are in the spotlight.
The manga uses it to show how humanity eliminates all those it deems useless, even going so far as to take extreme measures to make them suffer.
1. The time I was reincarnated in slime (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken)
Unlike most main characters in the isekai genre, the main character in That Time I Reincarnated as Slime is neither human nor overpowering. First of all.
As his name suggests, our MC is reincarnated in a slime that can’t even be seen. Only after he meets the friend of the dragon does he gain great power.
That’s what makes this show so fascinating. Although our master of ceremonies was quickly overwhelmed, he also had the experience of being at the bottom.
He’s not arrogant or stupid. Instead, he makes logical decisions and is not afraid to get his hands dirty when necessary.
